The Islamic Republic of Iran, the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, announced on Tuesday night that Ismail Haniyeh, the top leader of Hamas, was targeted and killed inside of Iran.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) said that Haniyeh was killed in the country’s capital city of Tehran, where he was attending the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s new president, Masoud Pezeshkian, The New York Times reported. They were reportedly targeted at a residence.
“The residence of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political office of Hamas Islamic Resistance, was hit in Tehran, and as a result of this incident, he and one of his bodyguards were martyred,” the IRGC said in a statement.
Haniyeh’s death comes after Hamas, an Iranian-backed terrorist group, launched an unprecedented terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, which resulted in more than 1,200 people being murdered.
