Bauchi residents urge suspension of protests following president Tinubu’s address

Some residents of Bauchi State, reacting to President Bola Tinubu’s Sunday broadcast, have called for the suspension of the protest.

In separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi, the residents suggested dialogue as a means of resolving issues.

They expressed that it was time for the protesters to shift from demonstrating to engaging in dialogue, as proposed by the president.

One resident, Olubunmi Adegboye, stated that the president had addressed the issues well and emphasized that protests or disputes often conclude with discussions at the negotiation table.

“If people are angry, yes, they have the right to be angry and protest,” Adegboye said. “It is true that everything is costly, but now that the government has acknowledged their complaints, I think they should allow dialogue to take place.

“I believe that those truly protesting against hunger will now opt for dialogue with the president.

“Anyone still protesting after this initiative by the president will be perceived as having different motives, revealing that they are merely using the hunger protest as a cover.

“They will have to face any repercussions that arise.

“The president’s actions this morning demonstrate his genuine efforts to address the current issues. Let’s give him time.

“Even the contributions of the protest organizers at the negotiation table could aid the government in resolving issues,” he added.
