The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has responded to a claim by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) that it facilitated the delivery of 29 million barrels of crude oil to the 650,000 barrels per day Dangote refinery.
In a statement issued on Friday by Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief, Branding and Communication for Dangote Industries Limited, the refinery clarified that it has not yet received the 29 million barrels of crude oil mentioned by the NUPRC.
Earlier, the NUPRC, in a statement from Abuja, refuted Dangote’s assertion regarding weak enforcement of domestic oil supply, stating that the commission had facilitated the delivery of 29 million barrels of crude oil to the refinery in the first half of 2024.
In a prompt response, the refinery expressed appreciation for the allocation but emphasized, “We would like to thank them for this allocation but at the same time let them know that we are yet to receive these cargoes.”
Furthermore, the refinery noted that apart from the term supply it had negotiated directly with the national oil company, NNPCL, “so far, NUPRC has only facilitated the purchase of one crude cargo from a domestic producer. The rest of the cargoes we have processed were purchased from international traders.”
