This statement comes amidst a heated debate that occurred over Adetshina’s eligibility to represent South Africa, as questions have arisen regarding her South African identity due to her Nigerian paternity.

Chidimma Adetshina, a 23-year-old who was born in South Africa, found herself at the centre of a public debate concerning her suitability as a representative of the nation.

While her South African birth could seemingly justify her participation, her detractors pointed to her Nigerian father as a reason to question her South African identity and her role as an ambassador for the country. The situation became further complicated when it emerged that Adetshina’s mother, of Mozambican descent, might have committed identity fraud in 2001 to secure South African citizenship. In light of these developments, Adetshina voluntarily withdrew from the Miss South Africa pageant.
