Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay has vowed to defend the club’s interests in negotiations with Arsenal over the transfer of midfielder Mikel Merino.
Aperribay stated: “We will talk to Arsenal and defend the interests of Real Sociedad. When we consider that the offer is good, we will say yes.”
Merino, a key player for Real Sociedad, has been Arsenal’s top target since the end of Euro 2024, where he helped Spain win the championship.
Despite his wishes to leave, Aperribay has chosen not to include him in the team, indicating a potential rift.
Arsenal have already made two signings this summer, Riccardo Calafiori and David Raya, and manager Mikel Arteta is eager to bolster his midfield before the transfer window closes.
