Defence chief asks commander to assist Borno flood victims

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, on Tuesday, directed the Theatre Commander to provide all necessary assistance to the flood victims in Borno.

Floodwaters have submerged major roads, homes, and shops across Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, as well as parts of Jere Local Government Area.

The flood also breached a prison wall in the Customs area, leading to reports of some inmates drowning while many others escaped in the chaos.

The CDS, in a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen Tukur Gusau expressed sadness over the incident.

He assured the citizens that the military would work with the National Emergency Management Agency and other relevant authorities to provide immediate relief and support to the affected communities.
