Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has criticized terrorism as a cover for other violent acts, including kidnapping and armed robbery.
He stated that Nigeria faces various insurgencies across six geo-political zones, with those using terror to pursue their agendas. Lagbaja attributed Nigeria’s high terrorism threat levels to several terrorist and militant groups, including Boko Haram, ISWAP, and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
He also noted that terrorism has created cover for other crimes and violence, such as looting banks and politically hired assassins operating under terrorist cover.
