US election: Donald Trump elected 47th US President

Donald Trump has won the U.S. presidential election, securing his return to the White House as the 47th president.

The Associated Press called the race early Wednesday for the Republican candidate after he outperformed Vice President Kamala Harris in a contest that proved far less close than anticipated.

Trump’s strong showing in key battleground states, including Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and, most recently, Wisconsin, delivered him the critical 270 Electoral College votes needed for victory.
