Tokyo, November 6 — Nissan has announced plans to cut 9,000 jobs globally as part of a major cost-saving initiative to address declining sales in China and the United States. The Japanese automaker will reduce global production by 20% in a restructuring move aimed at making the company more resilient.
Nissan, which employs over 6,000 people at its Sunderland plant in North East England, did not specify which regions will be most affected by the layoffs. The company has faced increased competition in China from local manufacturers like BYD, which has led to aggressive price cuts and strained foreign automakers.
