Gary Lineker could double his fortune after stepping down from his role presenting Match of the Day (MOTD) at the end of the season.
Lineker has hosted the show since replacing Des Lynam in 1999, but this season will be his last in the hot seat. The former England striker has signed a new 18-month contract with the BBC that will majorly change his role.
Lineker will continue to present their coverage of the FA Cup and the upcoming 2026 World Cup, while also hosting the MOTD Top Ten podcast. Episodes of The Rest is Football podcast, which features Lineker, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards, will also be available on BBC Sounds.
The podcast is produced by Goalhanger, which was co-founded by Lineker and produces a number of other successful podcasts. Goalhanger also produces a number of TV shows, including an upcoming Amazon documentary series on tennis star Serena Williams.
And according to a brand and culture expert, Lineker could double his estimated £30million fortune through Goalhanger. “This is a golden moment for Gary to make even more money, spread his broadcasting wings and create compelling content that will help him double his wealth,” Nick Ede told the Sun.
“I’m sure he will be selling his documentaries and series back to the BBC but now he has the option to sell to the highest bidders with the biggest viewership, making him one of the most powerful men in the media and it’s only going to get more successful for him as the demand is increasing.
