Matt Gaetz raises eyebrows: Claims Ukraine war driven by defense spending…extended war benefits contractors

“I think that the reason we are as involved in Ukraine as we are is because Afghanistan wound down. If we still had Afghanistan to launder money through, there probably wouldn’t be the need for this type of excessive involvement in Ukraine. But I think we can look at Afghanistan and we can look at what’s going on here and say, what a lot of these defense contractors are pushing toward is how to have an extended kind of low yield war.

In controversial remarks about U.S. military involvement abroad, new Attorney General Matt Gaetz has suggested that support for Ukraine serves as a replacement for Afghanistan in terms of defense spending and contractor engagement.

Speaking on military aid policy, Gaetz drew direct parallels between the two conflicts, asserting that the conclusion of operations in Afghanistan created a vacuum that the Ukraine conflict has filled. “If we still had Afghanistan to launder money through, there probably wouldn’t be the need for this type of excessive involvement in Ukraine,” Gaetz stated.

The Attorney General went further, suggesting that defense contractors are seeking to extend the conflict for financial gain. “What a lot of these defense contractors are pushing toward is how to have an extended kind of low yield war,” he said, adding that the goal appears to be “to stretch this thing out, turn it into a 20, 30 year kind of thing where there’s a whole lot of money moving around and unaccountable pots.”

Like if there’s a way to stretch this thing out, turn it into a 20, 30 year kind of thing where there’s a whole lot of money moving around and unaccountable pots and a lot of weapons getting bought and then all man the stockpiles well we got to spend more money to reload those”
