Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has raised the alarm that there is a plot to cancel his highly anticipated December concert in Nigeria.

Davido said the plot to cancel the show is because of his comments about Nigeria’s current economy, which became controversial.

He had stirred a debate during an appearance on the American podcast, Big Homies House, where he advised Americans against relocating to Africa, particularly Nigeria, citing the nation’s economy as being in “shambles.”

Davido’s comment triggered a wave of criticism from Nigerians both at home and abroad.

Prominent figures such as Joe Igbokwe and Reno Omokri condemned Davido’s comments, accusing him of damaging Nigeria’s global reputation.

In response to the criticism, Davido defended himself, asserting that entertainers like him are the country’s “real ambassadors.”

He posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Y’all mad ‘cause we the real ambassadors!”

Amid the ongoing backlash, the singer revealed that the controversy has escalated further, with threats to cancel his upcoming Lagos show.

“Dem say dem go cancel my show cus of my interview … loooool I don’t have to perform in Nigeria,” he tweeted.
