AFRICA CHECK
IN SHORT: These Facebook pages are promoting attractive Black Friday deals while posing as e-commerce platform Jumia. But they’re fake offers. To be on the safe side, place orders only on the platform’s website.
A post on 17 November 2024 by Jumia black Friday reads: “ENJOY 50% DISCOUNT ON TECNO SPARK 20 PRO, CUSTOMEJUMIARS WITH VOUCHERS,FLASH SALES,AND SPECIAL DEALS ON JUMIA SHOPPING.”
The post asks users to call or send a message to the number listed in the post.
Some of the pages feature the Jumia logo and name.
Jumia is one of Nigeria’s leading e-commerce platforms. It is known for its annual Black Friday sales, which offer discounts on a variety of products. This year’s sale runs from 1 to 30 November.

But are the pages legit? We checked.
Nothing but the facts
‘Pages are not affiliated with us’ says Jumia
There are obvious red flags that the pages are not owned by the e-commerce platform.
The pages’ posts are poorly written, which is not what one would expect from a popular business.
The standout red flag, however, is that the pages have very few followers , compared to the 19 million who follow Jumia’s official page.
The pages were all created in 2024, some in September, October and November.
Jumia hasn’t announced a dedicated page for its Black Friday sales, making these pages even more suspicious.
Africa Check visited the platform’s website and social media pages and found no information asking users to contact specific Facebook accounts to place any orders.
