In terrorist-ravaged Yobe, governor spends N600m on three generators for Gov’t House, N1.1bn to buy stoves, gas cylinders

A review of the Yobe State budget performance document has shown that Governor Mai Mala Buni spent N600 million on three generator sets between January and September 2024.

This represents the first to third quarter of the year. 

The report was posted on the state government’s website.

According to the document, the N600million was used to buy “1no 500KVA Mikano Generator for Government House in Damaturu, 1no 800KVA Parkins Generator for Maternal and Child Centre and 1no 500KVA Caterpillar Generator for Specialist Hospital.”

The amount spent on each generator set was not included but the total for the three was put at N600million. 

A further check by SaharaReporters showed the government bought stoves, cooking gas worth N1.1 billion “for distribution to the public to reduce pressure on fragile ecosystem, deforestation and emission of GHGs.”

Terrorism has impacted communities in Yobe State in various ways, with thousands of innocent lives lost and property worth millions of naira destroyed, including places of worship.

In September 2024, the terrorists killed over 100 persons in Mafa village.

The armed assailants were said to have invaded the community, riding over 50 motorcycles.

The victims were few days after the incident buried at Babangida, the headquarters of the Tarmuwa Local Government of Yobe State.
