No case of organ harvesting in Akwa Ibom hospitals – NAPTIP

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons has clarified that there have been no reported cases of organ harvesting in any hospital or clinic in Akwa Ibom State.

The Zonal Commander of NAPTIP, Ben Essang, made this known in a statement issued in Uyo on Tuesday.

The statement, titled Clarification on Misrepresentations Regarding NAPTIP’s Presentation at Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs Press Briefing, addressed concerns raised after a recent media briefing.

At the event, NAPTIP’s Public Enlightenment Officer in Akwa Ibom, Eme Ukpabio, highlighted global trends in human trafficking, including organ harvesting.

Her comments sparked concerns about possible cases within the state.

However, Essang clarified that Ukpabio’s remarks were not based on any specific incidents in Akwa Ibom but were intended to raise public awareness.
