Nigeria yet to recover from assassination of Sir Ahmadu Bello – Shehu Sani

Shehu Sani, a former senator who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th National Assembly, has said that Nigeria has yet to recover from the assassination of Sir Ahmadu Bello, the former Premier of Northern Nigeria, and others during the 1966 coup.

Sir Ahmadu Bello, widely known as the Sardauna of Sokoto, was a prominent northern political leader in the 1960s and served as the region’s first and only premier from 1954 until his death in 1966.

In a social media post on Wednesday, Sani described the assassination of Bello and other leaders as the “seed of evil” that still troubles the nation. He praised Bello’s selfless service to his people and the country, noting that the late leader lived and died materially poor.

“For those of us in Kaduna, where the late Premier of Northern Nigeria lived, led, and was brutally murdered, we still cannot trace any house, vehicle, or company to his name or that of his family members,” Sani wrote.
