SAHARA REPORTERS
The Kano State Censorship Board has banned Kannywood singer Usman Sojaboy and actresses Shamsiyya Muhammad and Hasina Suzan from participating in any Kannywood-related activities in the state.
This decision follows the circulation of a video deemed to contradict the Islamic religion and Kano’s culture and values, prompting numerous complaints from the public and the ulama.
In a statement signed by Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, the board’s Information Officer, on Monday, it was explained, “Sojaboy had been warned multiple times about his immoral and vulgar content.”
The Executive Secretary of the Kano State Censorship Board, Abba El-Mustapha, stated, “Our board will not tolerate any form of immorality in Kano from whosoever, and as from today, Sojaboy and his associates are no longer members of the industry.”
He also directed the preview unit to ensure strict compliance with the ban, adding, “All open theatres and entertainment centres should take note.”
The board emphasised its legal mandate to regulate expressions in alignment with Kano’s values, stating this move was part of ongoing efforts to uphold moral standards in the Kannywood industry.
