The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) says its operatives arrested 90 foreign nationals over alleged involvement in cybercrime in Rivers.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Y.I. Abdulmajeed, the state’s NIS comptroller, said the arrests were effected in collaboration with other security agencies.
Abdulmajeed added that the operation, which followed an intelligence report, led officers to the suspects’ hideouts.
“The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service has arrested 90 illegal immigrants for cybercrimes committed to defrauding innocent Nigerians,” he said.
“The suspects were apprehended following credible intelligence, in partnership with other security agencies.”
He noted that of the 94 people arrested, 85 were identified as Cameroonians, five as Chadians, and four as Nigerians.
Abdulmajeed said the group included 74 males and 20 females.
