Nurse who described Lagos as ‘smelly’ secures job abroad

A nurse, Ugbede Ojo, who went viral last year over her description of Lagos State as a “smelly city”, said she has secured a job abroad.

In November 2024, Ojo wrote on X: “This Lagos is a smelly city. People smell, the streets smell, the gutters smell, the water smells, everything is smelly. I’m tired.”

Her post drew mixed reactions online. While some supported her right to voice her opinion, others accused her of disrespecting Lagos and its residents. 

The backlash reportedly put her position at Gbagada General Hospital in jeopardy, with Ugbede later claiming she had faced “attacks” over the tweet. 

Amid the criticism, another X user with the handle #Elkrosmediahub, extended a helping hand by offering to connect Ugbede with opportunities abroad.
