While leftovers are tempting, reheating in the microwave might not be the best choice as it can poison the food. Reheating is a huge task as the food often gets unevenly heated and may have cold spots which allows the bacteria to survive. One more issue while reheating leftovers is that the food becomes dry or overcooked, spoiling the taste.
Food experts share their views on the foods that should not be reheated in any case!
Boiled eggs
Eggs are powerhouses of protein and hard-boiled eggs should be consumed fresh.
They are an easy portable snack. Experts state that if the boiled egg is kept in the fridge it is better to consume it when cold rather than using a microwave to heat it. Reheating a boiled egg causes pressure to build in the egg white leading it to an eruption when cut and it might even happen when the reheating process is underway and spoils the microwave plate.
Vitamin C-rich food
Vitamin C is water soluble and foods that are rich in Vitamin C are very sensitive to heat.
So make sure to skip microwaving foods. When exposed to heat, Vitamin C is degraded and destroyed. Foods that are rich in Vitamin C include broccoli, bell pepper, berries, and leafy greens.
Chicken
Reheating the chicken might sound perfectly safe but when the chicken is stored in the refrigerator and reheated, the fat in the meat will oxidize changing the chemical structure. The moisture in the meat evaporates and it changes both the taste and texture.
