The Lagos State Government has sought concerted efforts to end fire incidents in marketplaces as it begins the training and unveiling of Safety and Emergency Marshals.
The government, through the Safety Commission, said it had become important to have market representatives that would ensure emergency preparedness in Lagos markets to prevent fire disasters.
Speaking at Obanikoro Market, Lagos Island, on Thursday, the Director of Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, said the training was designed to avail the participants with knowledge of hazard identification, prevention, recovery, and response around markets.
He mentioned that the past fire incidents had cost the state in terms of compensation to victims and insurance costs to the market men and women.
