Makinde Keeps Promise On ₦80,000 Minimum Wage

The Oyo State Government has disbursed ₦12 billion to state workers, fulfilling Governor Seyi Makinde’s pledge to implement the ₦80,000 minimum wage effective January 1, 2025.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, in a statement on Saturday.

Highlighting the impact of the new wage structure, Oyelade stated that workers across various grade levels received significant increases.

“Workers on Grade Levels 1 to 6 now enjoy a minimum of ₦50,000 increment, while salaries of those on Grade Level 17 have increased by over ₦180,000,” Oyelade said.

The commissioner reaffirmed that the payment aligns with the state’s commitment to workers’ welfare.

In addition to salary increments for workers, the state government also announced measures to support retirees.

“A minimum pension of ₦25,000 and a 33 percent pension increment for over 40,000 retirees have been approved with immediate effect,” Oyelade revealed.
