Insecurity in the North: Obi links crisis to poverty

Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has attributed rising insecurity in Northern Nigeria to widespread poverty.

He made this statement during a visit to the Muslim community in Awka, Anambra State, where he joined them in breaking the Ramadan fast.

Obi emphasized that addressing poverty through education and youth empowerment is key to resolving the security crisis.

He stressed that Nigerians, regardless of religion, share common aspirations for a peaceful and prosperous nation.

“The criminality you see in the North is because of poverty. We need to fix poverty and invest in education to tackle these issues,” Obi stated.

He also pledged continued support for the Muslim community in Anambra, including assistance in rebuilding a primary school within the mosque.
