The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced that the number of Nigerians enrolled in the National Identity Number (NIN) system has reached 117,361,324 as of February 28, 2025. According to the commission’s latest data, 56.5% of registered individuals, or 66,281,803, are male, while 43.5%, or 51,079,521, are female. Lagos leads in enrollment with over 12.6 million registrants, followed by Kano with 10.2 million, while Kaduna ranks third with 6.9 million. The commission highlighted an almost equal distribution of registrations between the northern and southern regions.
Meanwhile, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, and Ekiti recorded the lowest enrollment figures, with 758,111, 990,775, and 1,143,102 registrations, respectively. Other states with low registration numbers include Cross River (1.3 million), Taraba (1.7 million), and Yobe (1.8 million). Among the top 10 states, Ogun (4.9 million), Oyo (4.5 million), Katsina (4 million), and the Federal Capital Territory (3.7 million) had significant registration figures. Rivers, Delta, and Bauchi also made notable contributions, with over 3 million enrollments each.
