Governor Josh Stein praised the Igbo community for over 50 years of contributions to North Carolina’s development.
North Carolina Governor Josh Stein has officially proclaimed June 14, 2025, as “Igbo Day”, recognizing the cultural contributions and heritage of the state’s vibrant Igbo community.
In the proclamation, Governor Stein acknowledged the presence of thousands of Igbo residents across the state, many of whom have lived in North Carolina for over five decades. He highlighted their notable contributions to the state’s economy, civic life, and community development.
“I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim June 14, 2025, as ‘Igbo Day’ in North Carolina…” the document reads.
The proclamation also praised the efforts of the Igbo Day Festival Organization, founded in 2022, for promoting and preserving Igbo heritage through annual cultural events.
“Igbos in North Carolina are encouraged to connect, celebrate, and support one another, fostering a strong sense of unity,” the Governor stated.
