Fox News extended its ratings dominance in Q2 2025, while CNN and MSNBC saw double-digit declines in all major categories, Nielsen data shows.

MSNBC and CNN posted steep viewership declines over the past year, while Fox News saw a significant ratings boost, fueled by renewed interest in Donald Trump’s political resurgence. According to Nielsen data reported by AdWeek, Comcast-owned MSNBC averaged 1.008 million primetime viewers from April to June — down 15% year-over-year. In the advertiser-coveted 25–54 demo, primetime dropped 20% to 91,000 viewers.

CNN fared no better, with primetime viewership falling 13% to 538,000 and a 15% drop in the demo. Daytime ratings also declined, down 14% in total viewers and 16% in the key demo.

Meanwhile, Fox News extended its reign to 94 consecutive quarters as the top-rated cable news network. Primetime viewership surged 25% to 2.633 million, while its 25–54 demo jumped 34% to 304,000.

“June was the highest month of 2025 for CNN television,” a CNN spokesperson said, noting growth in digital and streaming platforms.

Experts now point to a media landscape increasingly driven by conservative cable dominance.
