The British High Commission in Abuja has announced that from July 15, 2025, most Nigerians applying for UK study or work visas will begin receiving digital eVisas rather than physical visa stickers.
“This change marks a major step in the UK Government’s transition to a modern, digital immigration system,” the Commission said in a statement on Wednesday.
The eVisa will serve as a secure, online record of immigration status. However, applicants must still visit a Visa Application Centre for biometric data.
“Once a decision is made on their visa application, applicants will receive an email from UK Visas and Immigration with the outcome and instructions to create a UKVI account, to access their eVisa,” the statement added.
Chargé d’Affaires Gill Atkinson noted, “We’re making it easier and faster for Nigerians to travel to the UK.”
The update only applies to applications submitted on or after July 15. Visitor and dependant visas will still receive vignette stickers.
