Two personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were killed on Tuesday during an ambush in Udei, Guma LGA of Benue State. The joint security patrol team—comprising police units, NSCDC, local vigilantes, and other agencies—was responding to reports of burning houses when they encountered gunfire near Ukohol on the Makurdi-Lafia highway.
One police officer, Inspector Ochepo Benjamin, and an unnamed NSCDC officer sustained gunshot wounds and are being treated at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital. Three others, including Police Inspector Muhammed Abdullahi and two NSCDC officers, are missing.
While police spokesperson DSP Udeme Edet said she had no information, NSCDC spokesman Michael Ejelikwu confirmed the fatalities. “Yes, I can sadly and regrettably confirm the killing of two of our personnel, Adoli Simon (ASCI) and Ernest Tyolumun Ayilla (ASCI),” he said. “The NSCDC… will continue to defend the territorial integrity of the Nigerian nation.”
