Araghchi said Iran “has always been ready and will be ready in the future” for talks
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Saturday that the country would resume nuclear talks with the U.S. only if guaranteed there would be no further military strikes, according to state media.
Speaking to foreign diplomats in Tehran, Araghchi said Iran “has always been ready and will be ready in the future” for talks, but emphasized, “assurance should be provided that in case of a resumption of talks, the trend will not lead to war.”
He cited the recent 12-day Israeli bombardment and the June 22 U.S. strike on Iran’s nuclear and military sites, stressing that a “firm guarantee” is required to prevent a repeat. “The attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities has made it more difficult and complicated to achieve a solution based on negotiations,” he said.
Araghchi also noted Iran will respond to the U.N. nuclear agency “case by case” and warned of “serious” risks at attacked sites. Iran insists on enriching uranium on its soil, a stance opposed by President Trump.
