Even his fiercest critics will admit that he did not pilfer the nation’s boss, nor pander to its pleasures to the very end.
At an expanded Federal Executive Council session in Abuja on Thursday, Senate President Godswill Akpabio described former President Muhammadu Buhari as “a Nigerian whose loyalty to this nation was never up for sale,” asserting that he never embezzled public funds during his military or civilian tenure.
Akpabio emphasized Buhari’s commitment to discipline and integrity, saying: “President Buhari believed that discipline mattered. That integrity mattered. That leadership, even when lonely, must be anchored in something greater than power.”
He acknowledged even Buhari’s staunchest critics concede that he “did not pilfer the nation’s boss, nor pander to its pleasures to the very end.”
The tribute, attended by ministers, governors, National Assembly leaders, and Buhari’s family, honoured a leader who “did not flee from challenges” and stayed true to principle over popularity.
