Usain Bolt admitted in Tokyo that everyday activities like climbing stairs now leave him winded, highlighting his post-retirement fitness struggles.
Retired Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt says his fitness has slipped since leaving professional athletics, admitting he now feels breathless after climbing stairs.
Speaking at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, the eight-time Olympic gold medalist shared details of his current routine. “I mostly do gym workouts,” Bolt said. “I’m not a fan, but I think now that I’ve been out for a while, I have to actually start running because, when I walk up stairs, I get out of breath.”
The 39-year-old, who retired in 2017, stopped running after rupturing his Achilles during a 2024 charity soccer match. He still holds world records in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay.
Bolt described mornings with his children, occasional workouts, and downtime with TV and Lego. “I spend some time with them, hang out, until they start annoying me then I leave,” he joked.
