Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has expressed sadness over the death of Sergeant Olawoye Bukola, the police officer who was shot during the election violence that followed the Ekiti East Constituency 1 Bye-Election on Saturday.
The governor in a statement he issued on his personal tweeter handle described the late officer as brave and an embodiment of service.
He added that she battled valiantly for her life since Saturday but sadly lost the battle on Monday evening.
He said the late Sgt. Olawoye was a courageous and worthy police officer who excelled in a traditionally male-dominated career but lost her life in active service.
MHe added that his thoughts and prayers are with her family at this very difficult time.
He said the State will stand by them while also extending his condolences to the Nigeria Police Force.
He disclosed that he was briefed that the arrested suspects were charged to court on Monday vowing that his administration is committed to ensuring justice in the matter.
While praying for the repose of her soul he urged all all indigenes of the State irrespective of party of any other affiliations to come together to protect and defend the sanctity of the electoral process and secure lives and property during elections.
He concluded that the call is a non-partisan imperative that must be achieved together.
