Elton John’s shock revelations as he turns 75 – Three-day drug binges to voyeur fun

Daily Star

Elton John celebrates his 75th birthday today, after being born Reginald Kenneth Dwight back in 1947.

The British music icon will no doubt be having a quiet day with his husband David Furnish, 58, and their two children Zachary, 10, and Elijah, eight.

But while Elton has been sober for more than two decades, for a long time he lived his life in a very different way.

Here, as the late Princess Diana’s pal turns the big 7-5, Daily Star is taking a look back at some of Elton’s most candid confessions taken from his hit 2019 autobiography Me: Elton John.

Watching orgies saved his life

Elton has made no secret of his wild sex life prior to meeting husband David Furnish.

During his rise to the top Elton was a regular at orgies, though he says his love of voyeurism saved his life

The Rocket Man singer wrote: “I was never actually into f***ing that much.

“I was an observer, a voyeur.

“I’d kind of set up my perversion, have two or three guys doing things for me to watch.”

Elton continued: “That was where my sexual pleasure came from, getting a bunch of people who wouldn’t normally have sex with each other to have sex with each other.

“I didn’t really participle. I just watched, took Polaroids, organised things.”

Injecting dark humour, Elton added: “The only problem was that I was incredibly house proud so they’d end up having sex on the snooker table with me shouting ‘make sure you don’t c** on the baize’ which tended to puncture the atmosphere a bit.

“Not being that interested in having sex myself is the reason I never got HIV. If I had been, I’d would almost certainly be dead.”

Freddie Mercury was ‘almost blind and covered in ulcers’ in his final days

Elton spoke candidly about his heartbreak at losing close friend and music icon Freddie Mercury to the AIDS pandemic.

The singer died in November 1991 when he was just 45 years old.

Elton explained how Freddie’s appearance was shocking as the devastating virus took hold.

He wrote: “He hadn’t told me he was ill.

“I visited him a lot when he was dying, although I could never stay for much longer than an hour.

“It was too upsetting – I didn’t think he wanted me to see him like that.”

Elton continued: “Someone so vibrant and so necessary, someone that would have got better with age and gone from strength to strength, dying in such a horrible, arbitrary way.

“He was too frail to get out of bed, he was losing his sight, his body was covered in Kaposi’s sarcoma lesions, and yet he was still definitely Freddie, gossiping away, completely outrageous.”

Buying a tram during 72-hour coke binge

In a typically bizarre story, Elton revealed how he splashed out on a tram during an epic three-day binge on Class A drugs.

The British pop icon has revealed that the bizarre purchase was specially shipped from Australia before being helicoptered into his home.

Elton recalled: “I really don’t recommend going shopping in the depressing aftermath of a three-day cocaine binge unless you want to wake up the next day confronted by bags and bags filled with absolute crap you don’t actually remember buying.

“Or in my case you wake up the next morning to a phone call informing you that you’ve bought a tram.

“Not a model tram, that the voice at the end of you is now informing you has been shipped from Australia to your house where it can only be delivered by hanging it from two Chinook helicopters.”

Feeding Rod Stewart poppers on night out

Elton wrote that he once encouraged Rod Stewart to lose his inhibitions on the dance floor by feeding him gay sex drug poppers.

According to Rocket Man himself, Rod “always needed a little encouragement” during nights on the town but would spring into life after a whiff of the legal high.

The superstar said: “Rod used to carry on as if dancing was against his religion.
