Jose Mourinho is set to be the third highest paid manager for the next three seasons having been appointed as new Roma boss.

Mourinho was sacked by Tottenham last month though will return to work ahead of the next campaign in the Italian capital.

Reports suggest former Manchester United and Chelsea boss Mourinho has actually taken a pay cut to join Roma.

It’s believed he was earning around £14m per year at Spurs though will pocket less than half of that when he heads to Italy.

Though Tottenham are set to cover his wages for the next year due to a clause in his contract in north London.

It means Mourinho will pocket £11.3m per year for the next three seasons, though it leaves him some way behind Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

In comparison, Guardiola will reportedly pocket £20m per season while at the Etihad for the next three years.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is perhaps a surprise inclusion at No. 3 in the list while Zinedine Zidane and Jurgen Klopp make the top ten highest earners.

On becoming next Roma boss, Mourinho said: “Thank you to the Friedkin family for choosing me to lead this great club and to be part of their vision.

“After meetings with the ownership and Tiago Pinto, I immediately understood the full extent of their ambitions for AS Roma.

“It is the same ambition and drive that has always motivated me and together we want to build a winning project over the upcoming years.

“The incredible passion of the Roma fans convinced me to accept the job and I cannot wait to start next season.

“In the meantime, I wish Paulo Fonseca all the best and I hope the media appreciate that I will only speak further in due course. Daje Roma!”
