Angry ice hockey federation accuses Latvian officials of political showmanship by replacing Belarus flag at World Championship


The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has censured World Championship hosts Latvia after officials in Riga replaced the Belarusian flag in protest at the alleged ‘hijacking’ of an airplane by the authorities in Minsk.

On Monday, Riga mayor Martins Stakis and Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics publicly removed the Belarusian flag at a display representing the 16 nations taking part in the ongoing World Championship in the city.
