The 24-year-old athlete died in a car crash ahead of preparing to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Qatari 400 metre runner Abdalelah Haroun, who won a bronze medal at the 2017 world championships, has died in a car crash in Doha, the Qatar Athletics Federation said on Saturday. He was 24.
The federation’s secretary general, Mohammed Issa al-Fadala, said Qatar sports and athletics “lost a great hero” on a global level.

Qatari athletics is in mourning on Saturday following the news that Abdalelah Haroun has died in a traffic accident.
Haroun, best known for his bronze medal in the 400 metres at the 2017 World Championships, was born in Sudan on January 1, 1997, but was advised by a coach to move to Qatar and live with his uncle.

It was this decision which led to Haroun‘s career in the sport, achieving U18 national records in just his second season fully dedicated to the sport.
In 2018 he registered nine times under 45 seconds in the 400 metres, which included a Qatari national record when he hit a time of 44.07 seconds.
Haroun was hoping to qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo this summer, however the 24-year-old lost his life in Doha.
