Manchester United have offered Leon Goretzka a £200,000-a-week contract to join the Premier League club next year, according to reports.
The Bayern Munich midfielder has less than 12 months left on his current deal and is yet to agree new terms.
It has led to interest from Europe’s biggest clubs, including Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
German outlet Bild claim Goretzka’s representatives are ‘irritated’ with the lack of progress over a new contract.
The report adds United have submitted a ‘concrete offer’ to the Germany international should he choose to leave Bayern next summer.
Goretzka has won three Bundesliga titles since joining Bayern Munich on a free transfer from Schalke in 2018.
During that time, he has also undergone an insane body transformation, while becoming a regular starter for Bayern and the German national team.
New Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann wants Goretzka to stay with the club.
Earlier this month, he said: “Leon is an important player for us. I would be happy to work with him for many years.
“I think very highly of him. He is one of the most dangerous midfielders in the world. Everyone likes to have him in their team.”
Goretzka could be a replacement for Manchester United star Paul Pogba, who is also set to become a free agent next year.
Reports claim United could be forced to sell Pogba to Paris Saint-Germain for just £43million to avoid losing him for nothing at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.
However, talkSPORT’s Bundesliga reporter Kevin Hatchard played down the reports, saying it would be not only be a ‘major surprise’ but a ‘catastrophic failure’ if Goretzka is allowed to depart.
He told Hawksbee and Jacobs: “It’s about making the numbers work for both sides. That’s the aim from Goretzka, it’s the aim from Bayern.
“It would be a catastrophic failure if they were to let Goretzka leave. I don’t think he wants to leave.
“He enjoys playing at Bayern. He’s played his best football at Bayern. He’s really developed in the last year or so.
“He’s seen as a really central figure. That partnership between him and Joshua Kimmich in midfield is the key to the whole side.
“It would be a major surprise if he was to move on. These stories are always going to emerge because he only has a year left on his deal, so everyone gets a bit twitchy.
“But it’s highly likely that in the next few weeks he’ll agree a new contract with Bayern.”
