Arsenal are willing to offload captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang amid claims he and manager Mikel Arteta ‘don’t see eye-to-eye’.
Aubameyang has struggled for form since signing a bumper new contract last summer, the forward netting just ten Premier League goals last term.
Ahead of their opening weekend defeat to Brentford it was reported in the Times that they would be willing to let go of the 32-year-old.
And talkSPORT’s Alex Crook understands that these rumours about Aubameyang’s future could be related to his understood issues with Arteta.
“There were whispers I heard that he and Arteta don’t necessarily see eye-to-eye,” Crook said.
“Martin Keown was on the White and Jordan show on Friday trying to be diplomatic but he did say he’d heard the manager around the training ground has a bit of an ego and isn’t necessarily universally popular.”
The Gunners have been very busy in the transfer market having signed Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga as well as England defender Ben White for £50million.
However, there have been a few setbacks this summer as they look set to miss out on Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham while a deal for Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has fallen through.
It also seems unlikely they’ll sign James Maddison or forward Lautaro Martinez – it’s even been suggested he may snub Arsenal for Tottenham this summer.
“Edu [Arsenal’s technical director] is making a complete mess of transfer dealings,” Crook continued.
“Aaron Ramsdale… what does it say about Arsenal when you can’t get a goalkeeper out of a Championship club after being relegated twice in two seasons.
“What does it say about Arsenal that Tammy Abraham, a boyhood Thierry Henry lover who wanted to stay in London, wanted to go to Arsenal, as we speak is undergoing a medical in Italy to join Roma because Arsenal couldn’t get that deal done.
“Houssem Aouar has been waiting for an offer since January that hasn’t arrived.
“What is the strategy? They spent £50million on Ben White. There are so many areas they could have strengthened with that money. £50million on one player isn’t going to wave a magic wand and save it.”
