Dean Smith has become the fifth Premier League coach to be sacked so far this season, with former England teammates John Terry, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard all being linked to the Aston Villa job following the dismissal.
Villa are in desperate need of a boost in morale as they are currently sitting 16th in the Premier League table after having lost each of their last five league games.
While Aston Villa could contemplate turning to a foreign coach, the three Englishmen are considered as the favourites to take charge of the team during the November international break.
Terry: The former assistant
Terry was appointed by Aston Villa as Smith‘s assistant coach back in 2018 and, after helping the team to Premier League promotion, he parted ways with the club last summer.
Many see the former Chelsea captain as the perfect candidate for the job, with TV Pundit Bobby Zamora claiming that Terry would be interested in taking charge.
“I spoke to him [Terry] last week, he mentioned Dean being under a lot of pressure,” Zamora told Stadium Astro.
“I said ‘they wouldn’t sack him, would they?’ And he said ‘I really don’t know’.
“Would he [Terry] be interested? Yes, I think he would. It would be an interesting one.”
