Talks between Steven Gerrard and Aston Villa have appeared to accelerated with the English coach now ‘finalising backroom staff’ ahead of the move.
BirminghamLive report that Gerrard will be in the dugout at Villa Park should the club’s CEO Christian Purslow finalise a deal with his current side Rangers.
The Liverpool legend is seen as the club’s number one target to fill the manager’s seat after they sacked Dean Smith earlier this week.
Both Purslow and Gerrard are old acquaintances given the time they spent together at Liverpool between 2008 and 2009.
Fresh reports suggest talks between Gerrard and Villa have gone well, just the matter of backroom staff and transfer budget to be sorted out.
The former England international also needs to make a final decision as to whether he will leave Scottish Premiership side Rangers. His contract at the Ibrox runs until 2024.
