Biden to visit KY after devastating tornadoes

President Joe Biden plans to visit portions of western Kentucky after devastating tornadoes left dozens of people dead across the state.

The president will arrive in the Kentucky area on Wednesday, traveling to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, for a storm briefing, and to Mayfield and Dawson Springs to survey storm damage following the devastating tornadoes and extreme weather.

During a Monday afternoon press briefing, Gov. Andy Beshear said the president has been in communication since the tornadoes touched down.

“President Biden called me three times on Saturday, and has moved faster than we’ve ever seen on getting us the aid we need. We’ll welcome him here, we’ll thank him for his help, and — sadly — we’ll show him the worst tornado damage imaginable, certainly the worst in our history,” Beshear said.

Biden declared a major federal disaster in Kentucky after a swarm of catastrophic tornadoes devastated the area Friday night into Saturday morning.

In the wake of the devastating storms, Biden said he is working with the governor to ensure he has what he needs as the search for survivors and damage assessments continue.

“Jill and I pray — and I sincerely mean this — pray for those who have lost loved ones, and for those who are uncertain of the fate of their loved ones,” Biden said during a Saturday afternoon news briefing. “The federal government will do everything it can possibly do to help.”
