1. President Muhammadu Buhari’s son, Yusuf, was yesterday, turbaned Talban Daura, making him the District Head of Kwasarawa. The event, which held in the president’s hometown of Daura in Katsina State, had Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo; Senate President Ahmad Lawan; Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State and others in attendance.
2. The Debt Management Office (DMO) has clarified that loans from China to Nigeria, which presently stand at 3.59 billion dollars, constitutes only 9.4 per cent of the country’s total foreign debt stock of 37.9 billion dollars. Ms Patience Oniha, the Director-General of DMO made this known in an interview on Saturday in Abuja.
3. Officials of the Nigeria Customs Service attached to Tin Can Island Command on Friday intercepted a 1x40ft container carrying arms. It was learnt that the owner of the container had allegedly declared its content as plasma televisions.
4. Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said despite the various challenges the country is witnessing, President Muhammadu Buhari has succeeded in keeping Nigeria afloat. He said sponsored attackers and desperate opposition politicians, among others, are out to run down the president’s unprecedented achievements.
5. Security and intelligence officials are on high alert over reports of increasing ties between terrorist groups and bandits operating in the North West and parts of the North Central. The alert is coming on the heels of a recent security report indicating that bandits in Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, Niger and Kaduna States have acquired a stockpile of arms preparatory to launching major attacks within their areas of operation.
6. Four persons have been killed in another fresh attack by suspected Fulani militia at Zaman Dabo village, Atyap Chiefdom, in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State. A source, who sought for anonymity, explained that the attackers stormed the village in the night and carried out their evil plan.
7. President Muhammadu Buhari, on Saturday, insisted that the Federal Government had released funds for payment of earned allowances and revitalisation to universities. Buhari, who identified funding as a major problem confronting the Nigerian university system and as well the primary basis of incessant industrial actions in the ivory towers, said his administration had “consistently paid serious attention to the issue of university funding”.
8. Hoodlums on Saturday morning kidnapped the Chief Priest of Ala Owerri, in Owerri Municipal Council, Mr Reginald Ejiogu. It was learnt that the incident happened at the Church of Christ road by Ihugba street in Owerri.
9. The Imo State governor, Hope Uzodimma, on Saturday said 18 suspects arrested by security agencies have given dependable evidence on the names of sponsors of insecurity in Imo state, adding that their names will be reeled out on 3rd January 2022. The governor disclosed this in Owerri while addressing elected officials of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the State.
10. In a bid to increase and protect the country’s territory, Nigerian Army, Saturday enlisted 5,800 new soldiers. During their Passing Out Parade from the Nigerian Army Depot, Zaria on Saturday, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen Farouk Yahaya charged the new soldiers to be ready to defend the territorial integrity of Nigeria.
