1. President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the National Assembly, explaining reasons he didn’t assent to the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill. The President pointed out the high cost of conducting primary elections and insecurity as reasons he withheld assent to the bill.
2. The Senate Committee on Appropriations has said that the 2022 budget will be presented and considered on Tuesday. The chairman of the committee, Senator Barau Jibrin (APC, Kano), disclosed this while briefing newsmen after a meeting with the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu.
3. About 45 farmers have been killed and 27 injured following renewed hostility in Lafia, Obi and Awe local government areas of Nasarawa State. It was gathered that the first attack, which started on Friday morning, continued up till Sunday night.
4. Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje yesterday, said crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state will not divert his government’s attention from developing the state. Ganduje, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar, said this at the Government House in Kano during a stakeholders’ meeting.
5. The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has expressed concern over the alleged lack of empathy by Northern Governors to communities being attacked and killed by bandits and other criminals in the region. In a statement by the ACF National Publicity Secretary, Mr Emmanuel Yawe on Monday, the Forum alleged that the governors have not been showing enough sympathy to the victims just like President Muhammadu Buhari.
6. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Monday stated that Nigeria has entered the fourth wave of coronavirus disease following a 500 per cent increase in the number of cases in the past two weeks. This is as the disease control centre also advised Nigerians to take caution during the Yuletide season.
7. The FG has said it has digitalised payments for Nigerian Passports, advising citizens to avoid patronising touts and unscrupulous officials when applying for the documents. This was disclosed by the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, during the rollout of the Enhanced e-Passport with Polycarbonate Data Page and other security features in Ibadan, Oyo State on Monday.
8. Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, says the National Assembly lacks the temerity to override the refusal of President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the Electoral Act amendment bill. The governor said the federal legislature lacks the courage because it was part of the APC’s scheme to deny Nigerians free, fair and transparent election in 2023.
9. Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has vowed to ensure that killers of a Fulani herdsman and Tiv farmers in the state, who were recently attacked, are arrested and prosecuted. Governor Sule made the vow during a meeting held on Monday with security chiefs and traditional rulers.
10. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC has confirmed 1,368 more cases of COVID-19 in 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The health agency made the announcement on Monday night via a post on its verified Facebook page.
