Every year, Tamil Nadu produces 12.5 million tonnes of paddy. Of this, the government procures only 4 million tonnes. The government has storage capacity for only 1.8 million tonnes of paddy. The government’s paddy procurement should be increased to 7 million tonnes, he urged.
