With just seven hours to go of the January transfer window, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang found himself at the centre of a social media storm – after being described as the next Peter Odemwingie.
The former West Brom striker infamously drove to QPR’s training ground on deadline day in 2013, assured that he would be about to sign for the West London club despite a lack of agreement between the two clubs.
As it happened, the move never came off and Odemwingie was forced to apologise before seeing out the season at the Hawthorns, and leaving the following September with his profile significantly increased, if nothing else.
Fast forward to Monday’s deadline day and reports suggest Aubameyang may have made the same error.
