Adeboye to legal practitioners: Our survival depends on God’s mercy, not human brilliance

Pastor E.A. Adeboye urged legal practitioners at RCCG’s “Divine Mercy” service to recognize that life is sustained by God’s mercy—not human brilliance—and warned that mercy is conditional, while calling on them to embody justice and compassion.

Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), emphasised that human life and accomplishments are sustained by divine mercy, not ersonal brilliance, during the September “Divine Mercy” thanksgiving and prayer service at RCCG’s national headquarters, Ebute-Metta. “The fact that we are still alive today is of the mercy of God. You are alive not because you are clever but because of the Lord’s mercy,” he affirmed.

He shared a personal testimony from his university years, recalling how during an exam, he suddenly went blank despite thorough preparation, but a mysterious hand kept him seated and clarity returned. “That was God’s mercy,” he recounted.

Adeboye warned that divine mercy is conditional, citing scripture: “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy,” and adding, “There is trouble for the unmerciful. The result can be destruction without remedy.” He cautioned that God’s patience is not limitless: “There comes a time when God decides enough is enough. The outcome can be very serious.”

Addressing journalists, Pastor Dele Balogun urged legal practitioners to uphold fairness and equity, stating, “If we want justice in this nation, they have a critical role to play.” Over 2,000 needy individuals received rice distributions during the service, reinforcing that mercy must also be reflected in action. “You cannot say you want mercy from God and at the same time engage in kidnapping, corruption, murder, or theft,” he warned.
