The Federal High Court in Abuja has prohibited all parties in Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s lawsuit against Senate President Godswill Akpabio from granting media interviews about the case. Justice Binta Nyako issued the gag order Friday after Akpabio’s lawyer, Kehinde Ogunwumiju (SAN), complained about the plaintiff’s media appearances discussing the pending matter.
“There shall be no press interviews by all parties and their lawyers regarding the subject matter,” Justice Nyako ruled. The case stems from Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension from the Senate and subsequent legal challenge. Legal experts note such gag orders aim to prevent trial by media, though some critics argue they may limit public accountability. Both camps must now refrain from public commentary until the court’s final determination.
