Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s camp has dismissed claims that Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu provided him with funds for the 2023 presidential election. In a statement signed by his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku’s team described the allegations as baseless propaganda aimed at discrediting him. They also stated that Atiku has never met Sanwo-Olu, calling the accusations a political ploy by President Bola Tinubu’s camp.
The statement further alleged that the claims were part of a strategy to sideline Sanwo-Olu, who is reportedly out of favor with powerful figures in Tinubu’s circle. Atiku’s team also linked the allegations to an attempt to weaken the opposition’s coalition. They challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to publicly disclose the findings of any investigation into the matter, urging an end to what they described as a smear campaign.
