A four-nation men’s football tournament, the Unity Cup, will take place in London later this year, featuring Ghana, Nigeria, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago. The Ghana Football Association confirmed the participation of the four nations, with the tournament scheduled to begin on May 27.
According to Andy Howes, co-director of competition organiser AfroSport, “The Unity Cup is a tournament that really does evoke the often-used phrase ‘an event that goes beyond sport’.” He added that the event reflects the growing commercial importance of African and Caribbean football, as well as the growing demographic of black football fans within English football.
The tournament will feature two semi-finals, with Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago competing in the first match on May 27, followed by Ghana and Nigeria on May 28. The losers will play a bronze medal match on May 31, while the winners will face each other in the final later that day
