Lagos, FCT, Kano top list of 614,051 arrested traffic offenders

The Federal Road Safety Corps has arrested a total of 614,051 traffic offenders across the country in 2023, Saturday PUNCH gathered.

The figures were in a document made available to our correspondent on Friday.

According to the document, Lagos State topped the list with 61,882 arrested traffic offenders. The Federal Capital Territory and Kano follow this with 43,682 and 38,154 arrested traffic offenders respectively.

A further breakdown in the document showed that Ogun recorded 37,948 arrested traffic offenders; Kaduna 31,472; Oyo, 31,447; Kwara, 28,277; Osun, 22, 565; Kogi, 22,377; Ondo, 17,798; Niger, 17,726; Delta, 16,741; Edo, 15,727; Rivers, 14,925; Benue, 14,030; Katsina, 14,023; Ekiti, 13,824; Yobe, 13,734; Plateau, 13,520; and Borno, 12,469.

Others are Nasarawa, 12,414; Jigawa, 12,052; Cross River, 11,524; Bauchi, 10,027; Sokoto; 9,754; Zamfara, 9,608; Akwa-Ibom, 9,458; Adamawa, 8,873; Enugu, 7,217; Ebonyi, 6,550; Anambra, 6,746; Imo, 5,459; Taraba, 5,163; Gombe, 5,130; Kebbi, 3,952; Abia, 3,097; and Bayelsa, 2,683.

The document further revealed that the traffic offenders were arrested for 668,084 traffic offences ranging from speeding, seatbelt violation, use of phones while driving, overloading, and dangerous driving.
